The Center for Study of Development Strategies is pleased to announce a new initiative to support graduate student research with seed funding during the summer of 2014.  The center will make four grants available for new research projects for summer 2014.

Topics
Proposals should address the topics and themes of interest to the center. CSDS encourages proposals to implement or develop experimental designs to examine questions related to the political economy of development. Grants must be used as seed funding to develop a larger project; grantees will be expected to report on the analysis of data collected over the summer of 2014 and steps to expand the project or an explanation of why the project is not worth continuing.

Who
The call is open to early year (1,2,3) graduate students in the Department of Political Science or to early year participants in the SSDS seminar.

Budgets
Proposals should include budgets to cover the proposed research; these should not exceed $3,000 for an individual project and $6,000 for a joint project. Funding must be spent by October 2014 or be returned to the center for future grants.

Obligations
Awardees will be asked to present their designs in May 2014 and their initial results in December at two mini-conferences at Columbia.

Application
Please complete the application form and send a CV to csds@columbia.edu

Deadline
The deadline for applications is midnight on 25 April 2014. Results of this round should be announced approximately one week after this deadline.

Questions
Feel free to contact grant round chairs Lauren Young or Peter van der Windt with inquiries regarding the grant program and application process.
